Carpal Tunnel Relief
Did you know that chiropractic has treated thousands of even advanced and difficult carpal tunnel symptoms? Hand and wrist pain is something that I treat on a daily basis at my clinic.
Approximately 600,000 cases of carpal tunnel surgery are performed in the United States annually; this procedure is not with out risks- Including infection, nerve damage and increased pain and mobility issues. While this can be a beneficial procedure, it is always recommended that conservative, non-surgical interventions be attempted before surgery.
Chiropractic has long been known as an alternative option for carpal tunnel symptoms. Clinically I have personally witnessed many carpal tunnel surgeries avoided using chiropractic. My approach to carpal tunnel is four fold.
Adjust the hand and wrist. The hand is a magical instrument. The human hand has 27 bones, which are made up of eight carpal bones, five metacarpal bones, and 14 phalanges. The carpal bones form a bridge of sorts that allow for a tunnel, a narrow tube of bones and ligaments at the base of the hand where the median nerve sits innervating the palm of the hand and 3.5 fingers. These bones work in delicate symmetry with each other and as a chiropractor, I frequently find them not motioning correctly. Adjusting the wrist is simple and quick and in many cases immediate and lasting relief. Adjunct therapies like cold laser, acupuncture, rock tape, micro stim, and more can further help.
Adjust the elbow and shoulder. Where there is one restricted joint complex… you will find another. As a chiropractor I always look to adjacent joints. Ensuring the elbow and shoulder is moving correctly is crucial. If one of them is restricted it will always affect the rest of the arm and hand.
Assess the neck- adjust as necessary. All nerves that go into the shoulder, arm and hand come from the neck and upper back area. If there is nerve disruption or restriction in the neck, back or brachial plexus, the probability of it affecting the hand and wrist are high.
